Our First CME Global Health Conference: A Milestone for Emergency Project

From September 13–16, Emergency Project hosted its first CME-accredited Global Health Conference and Wellness Retreat. This milestone event followed our medical mission in Amman, where our team served refugee populations across the surrounding area. What began with service in refugee clinics culminated in a gathering that brought together physicians, students, and humanitarian leaders to learn, share, and grow. The program unfolded against the stunning backdrop of Wadi Rum, the Red Sea, and Petra.

Conference Highlights:

  • First-ever ACCME-accredited conference led by Emergency Project

  • Culmination of our mission serving refugees in and around Amman

  • Collaboration with over 10 local medical students, making it a true partnership across borders

  • Engaging lectures on urgent global health issues: famine, refugee care, and the foundations of humanitarian medicine

  • A powerful talk on serving refugees from Lina Abu Sirhan, a medical student, Palestinian refugee, and experienced humanitarian.

  • Expert sessions from leaders tackling the global opioid crisis

  • Hands-on training with Butterfly ultrasounds, including procedural practice on venous line placement and pericardiocentesis

  • A pre-conference tour of Amman, exploring the oldest and most well-preserved Roman ruins outside Italy, visiting Jerash, and tasting the rich cuisine of the Levant

  • Wellness woven into learning, with stargazing under some of the clearest skies on earth, hiking in the desert, riding hot air balloons, exploring Petra, and diving or snorkeling the Red Sea

This balance of rigorous education, practical training, and restorative wellness created something truly special. It reminded us that caring for the world also means caring for ourselves.

Looking ahead, the success of this first conference sets the stage for even more impact. Planning is already underway for our next gathering, where we will expand partnerships, strengthen training, and continue building bridges across communities. We are grateful to everyone who made this first step possible, and we cannot wait to welcome you to the next chapter of this journey.
